6 Tips to Quench Physician & Billing Staff Burnout

eGuide

A recent study of nearly 7,000 physicians found that half of American doctors exhibit symptoms of burnout. A previous Mayo Clinic study found a similar disturbingly high incidence of physician burnout: 54% of doctors reported experiencing at least one symptom of burnout from the Maslach Burnout Inventory, a validated tool for measuring burnout.

While not specifically included in these studies, mounting evidence also suggests that other providers, and clinical and billing staff, may suffer similar effects from today’s high-stress healthcare delivery environment. A recent study by Compdata reveals that healthcare employee turnover has remained at record levels for several years running.

Even more alarming, the physician suicide rate is now much higher than the general public’s – even exceeding that of combat veterans. Whether you’re involved in an in-house or outsourced billing operation, you will likely deal with the trickle-down effects of escalating physician and staff burnout.
