AdvancedMD Awarded 21st Century Cures Act Certification from ONC Health IT
Established and maintained by the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) for Health Information Technology, the Cures Act requirements set the standard for EHR usability, interoperability, and security.
South Jordan, Utah, January 4, 2023 – AdvancedMD, provider of healthcare software for independent medical, mental health, and physical therapy practices, announced today it has received the 21st Century Cures Act Certification from the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) for Health Information Technology. Based on The Cures Act legislation, the certification ensures EHR platforms meet industry standards for interoperability, usability, and security. AdvancedMD has met all requirements for the most current version of the certification: the 2015 Update Edition of the Cures Act.
The three-year certification process included the efforts of multiple AdvancedMD product management, product engineering, EHR and interop teams, in addition to working directly with the Drummond Group to ensure the AdvancedMD EHR platform met all necessary requirements.
“Earning the Cures Act certification marks a major milestone for AdvancedMD. It’s a testament to our commitment to the healthcare IT industry and demonstrates the lengths we go to ensure our platform is the gold standard in EHR,” said Tim Constantino, VP, and head of product at AdvancedMD. “Earning this certification took a lot of heavy lifting by many AdvancedMD teams and involved an incredibly complicated process that included contributions from team members spanning five different time zones. I couldn’t be prouder of what they achieved.”
The 21st Century Cures Act Certification provides industry-regulated standards for healthcare IT developers, ensuring EHR solutions meet the needs of patients, doctors, and healthcare organizations. The latest version of the certification – designated as the “2015 Update Edition of the Cures Act certification” – included three specific requirements that put a focus on patient access and improved data exchange: electronic health information (EHI) export capabilities, standardized API for patient and population services, and privacy and security attestation criteria.
According to ONC, the newly defined criteria involved five entirely new standards with revisions to several previous requirements, all constructed as part of an outcome-focused format. “AdvancedMD prioritizes usability, interoperability, and security. Earning this certification is recognition that we are fully devoted to our primary objectives as a leading EHR, practice management and patient engagement solution. Our goal has always been to enhance physician workflows to enable improved patient outcomes,” said Amanda Hansen, president, AdvancedMD.
First launched in 2016, ONC’s Cures Act Certification aims to support, “seamless and secure access, exchange, and use of electronic health information.” According to the ONC website, the certification process is designed to increase innovation and competition among EHR providers by fostering an ecosystem of new applications that give patients more choices within their healthcare decisions.
