2024 is 75% complete so now is crunch time for many providers participating in the MIPS program.

Many of the measures you report on are ‘Once Per Reporting Period’.  That means you only need to meet the measure on one visit for each patient during 2024.

Even if you failed to meet measures prior to today, by making sure you meet the quality measure the next time the patient walks in the door, you get credit for that measure.

For Podiatry, once per reporting period measures include:

Measure 047 – Documentation of Advance Care Plan

Measure 226 – Tobacco Cessation Counseling

Measure 126 – Neurologic Evaluation of the lower extremity of the Diabetic Patient*

Measure 127 – Footwear evaluation of the Diabetic Patient*

Measure 155 – Fall Risk Plan of Care*

*- These measures are topped out and have a maximum score of 7

Even if you start now, you may have the opportunity to avoid a penalty related to your 2024 MIPS score. Dr. Brody has been actively involved in computers and medicine since the 1980s. He is a Residency Director at a VA hospital located in Long Island, NY. Notably, he was present as the VA moved from paper records to computerized records. During this time, he was exposed to the stringent rules and regulations that government employees must adhere to when protecting patient information. He co-founded TLD Systems with Warren Melnick. They wanted to create a platform for private practice doctors that provides a cost-effective method of implementing HIPAA compliance in their practices. He has served on the Health Information Technology Standards Panel (HITSP), the Standards and Interoperability Framework (S&I), as a member of the Ambulatory Care Committee at the Certification Commission on Health Information Technology (CCHIT), and numerous other organizations. He is currently a member of the Physicians Committee at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and a co-chair of the EHR workgroup at Health Level Seven International (HL7).
